Vcast 7 - How To Get Your Project Back on Track - $35.00

This vcast is the sequel to "Vcast 4 - How do you know if a project is in trouble?" In this vcast we introduce you to a disciplined, controllable, and repeatable approach to confronting any troubled project, no matter how large or problematic it might be. We start by giving you a quick look at our "6-step Corrective Action Drill" so you have a frame of reference for understanding the material that follows. We then build upon the project issues we identified in Vcast 4, by objectively examining the problems of troubled projects relative to "Two Gaps"; the Delivery Gap and the Expectations Gap. Armed with this information we then walk through the 6 strategy options for correcting a troubled project and show you how to pick which strategy is best for your project based on your gap assessment.

As you might imagine, there is quite a bit of material here and we have broken it up into 4 distinct shows in order to make it more digestible.

Show 1: In the first show we scan the 6 Step-Corrective Action Drill and examine two gaps...the Delivery Gap and Expectations Gap....that must be addressed if the project is to be put right.

Show 2: We spend the second show walking through the first two steps of the 6-step Corrective Action Drill. In "Assessing the Situation", we show you how to use the Delivery and Expectation Gaps to determine both which strategy you should use to turn your project around as well as what strategy you should use to address any contributory role you may have had in getting the project into trouble in the first place. Then, in "Developing the Plan", we provide a detailed discussion on the four "levers of change" at your disposal to fix a project and how you should choose which levers to use given the circumstances of your project.

Show 3: Here we complete the 6-Step Corrective Action drill by walking through steps 3-6. At the end, we pull it all together by doing a review of all 6 steps to illustrate how quickly the drill can be executed once the mechanics of each step are understood.

Show 4: Finally, we walk through a real example of how the 6-Step Corrective Action Drill was applied to a mid-sized ($800k) project. A couple of points the example drives home are (1) how quickly the drill can be executed given some practice, and (2) how the PM can seize and maintain the initiative in turning the project around with a positive, well structured approach to bringing order to the effort.
